| 1 | MMA lightweight 150lbs | Kevin Madrid Mendoza Fight Team Surrey BC | Def. | Trevor Thorton Crisis MMA Olympia WA | Madrid made good use of knee strikes while up that finally took Thorton down in round 2. Thorton Dominated in round 1 however. Madrid would get the win by tapout by rear naked choke. |

| 3 | Muay Thai Welterweight 147 lbs | Terrance Viloria Mendoza Fight Team Surrey BC | Def. | Pat Alec North Shore Fight Team North Vancouver BC | Bit of a delay for the judges on this one. A split decision goes to Terrance Viloria, who poured on great action on Alec in the third round and took his game apart. |
| 4 | Muay Thai Heavyweight 205 lbs | Lloyd Kenny, Williams Lake Muay Thai Williams Lake BC | Def. | David Correa Crisis MMA Olympia Wa | 1:27 Round Correa took a knee and his corner conceded. Kenny looked tight and had hard flurries for Correa. Early on, Correa who is more of an mma player, did not look like an organized kickboxer. | 7 | MMA NAC Flyweight Title | Cheryl Chan Mendoza Fight Team Surrey BC | Def. | Jamie Gonzales Charlie’s Fight Club Everett, Wa | Tapout by triangle choke and armbar in round 2. We saw a case of how working a fighter in guard up against a cage doesnt work that way with a roped ring. The fight had to be brought back to the center and stood up a number of times. Chan just bided her time and showed off a win buy triangle from the bottom position. |
| 8 | MMA Middleweight 175 lbs | Edward Banezik Surrey Martial Arts Academy | Def. | Marquez Bryant Crisis MMA Olympia WA | Bryant did not pass physical, so the fight was conceded to Baneziek. |

| 2 | Kickboxing | 115 | James Chaplin Team KARMA, Vancouver, BC | Buneet Bisla Bisla Martial Arts Surrey. | A high spirited exhibition match between two young fighters. Both showed well. |
| 3 | Boxing | 170 | Palvir Atwall Bisla Martial Arts Surrey, BC | Marcel Rochfort Williams Lake Muay Thai. | Atwall wins by judges decision. He had a solid boxing strategy through the 3 rounds. Rochfort’s muay thai training didnt allow him to adapt fully to a boxing match. |
| 4 | kickboxing | 150 | Terrance Viloria Mendoza Fight Team Surrey, BC | Matias Garay Team KARMA Vancouver Vancouver, BC | Not an easy match for either fighter. The fight saw problems with issues such as illegal knees, striking after the bell, equipment malfunctions, missed kicks, and both fighters had to be refocused by the referee. Viloria showed better technical skills, while Garay was more of a brawler and ran out of gas in round 3 and Viloria got the win by judges decision. |
| 5 | kickboxing | 155 | Sunny Sandhu Bisla Martial Arts Surrey, BC | Brady Anderson Team HAVOK Kelowna, BC |
A passionate spirited match for both fighters, but Sandhu had more control manage to wear down Anderson by the third round. Lots of close in exchanges between these fighters. Win by judges decision. |
| 6 | kickboxing | 140 | Vik Johal Basi’s Lion’s Den Calgary | Nathan McGuire Team KARMA Vancouver Vancouver, BC | McGuire was not checking Johal’s aggressive kicking in round 1, McGuire’s corner brought him back into the fight through round 2. After the end of round 3, McGuire let his frustration show with his own performance and he knew that he could have done better than the majority decision that was handed to Johal. |
| 7 | Muay Thai | 170 | Novic Pavic Suitela Fight Club Surrey, BC | Feruz Madjitob Columbia Martial Arts Burnaby, BC |
In this match the fighters acted much more cagey, playing a range game in round 1. Pavic scores a knockdown at the end of round 2, and managed to wear out Madjitob before round 3 was out. Win by TKO. |

Playing the bad guy against local favourite, Dowsett and Aujila pumped out an exciting round one, crowd screaming. Dowsett is a strong, skilled, technical, and showy boxer, and Ajula is a younger fighter but even with the crowd behind him, he couldn’t avoid the knockdowns and inside moves Dowsett served up. |
| 11 | kickboxing | 210 | Lloyd Kenny Williams Lake Muay Thai Williams Lake BC | Darren Cheekinew Team Karma Vancouver | In round 2 Cheekenew was unable to return blows after holding up well. MartialArtsNomad.com recently contacted Mike ‘Knock ‘Em Down’ Downey. We are all interested to see how Mike is going to measure up to Kiarash Moghaddam for the upcoming Canadian Amateur Muay Thai title match for 185 lbs at Summer Slugfest in Victoria, on August 21 2010.
This shot looks like its from some recent training in Thailand, judging by the Thai sign in the background. Mike Downey is definitely a serious fighter to deal with. Downey and Moghaddam got in the ring earlier this year in Vancouver for the Western Canadian Amateur Muay Thai Title for their weight division. These two well matched fighters went the full distance only for the judges to say the result was too close to call. The fighters then had to put the gloves back on and go an extra round for the judges to render a decision.
Now these two fighters are raising the stakes even higher going for the open Canadian title. Downey will also be out to prove in front of his home town crowd that Western Canadian title should have also gone his way.
I asked Mike to let me know what his strategy is going into the ring at slugfest. Mike replied, “You are going to have to ask Kiarash how I beat him after the fight… if he can remember when he awakes! “
We are all looking forward to a great night of fights at Summer Slugfest in Victoria on August 21!
